Mileage Tracking
Logging trips manually (web or iPhone)
Add a trip using whichever is easiest:
- Addresses — enter a start and end address and CalendTree calculates the distance
- Odometer — enter start and end readings
- Distance — enter the mileage directly
Each trip gets a purpose: Business, Medical, Charity, or Personal. CalendTree applies the correct IRS cents-per-mile rate for the year automatically to calculate your deduction.
Automatic detection on iPhone
The iPhone app can detect drives in the background using your phone's location and motion sensors, so you don't have to remember to log a trip. A drive only starts once your speed is sustained enough to rule out walking, and — when your phone's motion sensor can tell the difference — it also confirms you're actually in a vehicle before it locks the trip in, which is what keeps a fast bike ride from being logged as a drive. A trip is automatically closed out once you've been stopped for a few minutes, long enough to survive a quick stop without cutting a trip short.
Every auto-detected drive shows up for you to review — you'll be prompted to classify it as business or personal, and you can always edit or delete it (with a few seconds to undo a delete, just in case).
Reviewing trips on the web
Auto-detected trips needing review appear as cards on the web dashboard too, along with an interactive map showing pins for each one.
Year-to-date totals
Your total business miles and estimated deduction for the year are shown right at the top of the Mileage view. You can switch years, and export everything to CSV (date, purpose, distance, deduction, start/end, vehicle, and notes) whenever you need it for taxes.
